It was Saturday, March 14, 2009. That morning a table was placed at the entrance of the Aula Magna of Universidad Mariano Gálvez de Guatemala, providing access to the main hall to hear the first talks of the morning.
That was the prelude to the first Barcamp event in Guatemala, the first one organized in Central America.
These events follow an "unconference" format, nothing lecture-style: the talks are organized on the same day the event takes place, and each person proposes their own topic, which lets the attendees themselves enrich the activity.
10 years have passed since then, and it kicked off several events organized at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, at the TICS of the Instituto Técnico de Capacitación y Productividad (INTECAP), even at a departmental level in Esquipulas, Chiquimula.
Many still ask whether there will be another Barcamp event; we eagerly hope it will be possible and that we can see each other there again.
